Will I be groggy after sedation with nitrous oxide?

One of the advantages of using nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is that it is a very mild form of sedation that only lasts as long as we’re administering the gas. Once treatment is over, you will feel no after-effects, and depending on the type of procedure you had done, you will be able to go about your normal activities.

Nitrous oxide is very effective for many people who need a bit of sedation to help with dental anxiety. Of course, for the majority of procedures, Dr. Goel will numb the area first, so that you will not feel any discomfort.

But you may have greater anxiety about dental procedures, and sedation with nitrous oxide is helpful in allowing you to relax completely. With nitrous oxide, you will not go to sleep. You will, however, feel very calm and detached from the activity around you. Many patients tell us that they have little or no memory of the procedure after it’s completed.

At Queen Anne Dental, we also offer oral conscious sedation, which provides deeper relaxation. We can also combine this with nitrous oxide for the ultimate in relaxation and stress-free dentistry.

Please contact our office if you have an upcoming procedure and would like to learn about the benefits of sedation dentistry.

Will my dental procedure hurt?

Our first priority at Queen Anne Dental is your complete comfort. It’s very common to be concerned about your treatment and want to avoid any discomfort.

We use state-of-the-art equipment that is designed to help make treatments more efficient, minimizing the amount of time you need to spend in the dental chair. Dentistry has changed a lot in recent years, so if it’s been a while since you’ve had a dental visit, you may be pleasantly surprised at the difference these improvements can make to your overall experience.

Before we begin any invasive procedure, like filling a tooth, we will numb the area completely with an anesthetic. You will not feel anything, except perhaps a light pressure.

If you’re very concerned and feel you need more support, we can recommend sedation options to help you relax. Every patient has unique needs, and we will work with you to make sure that we address yours so that you are completely comfortable before, during, and after treatment.

Getting to know and trust the people caring for your treatment can help tremendously. We encourage you to call our Queen Anne Dental office to arrange a visit just to say hello and meet our friendly, caring team.

How does nitrous oxide sedation work?

Many people suffer with dental anxiety, which is actually very common. Sometimes their fear is so great that they simply go without dental treatment. Nitrous oxide sedation may be all you need to help you get the treatment you need.

We have options at Queen Anne Dental because we want you to be able to relax during treatment so you can stop putting off dental visits and possibly damaging your oral health. Nitrous oxide is a gentle form of sedation that is very effective for many of our patients.

Unlike other sedation methods, nitrous oxide is very mild. We administer the gas through a small nasal mask, and all you have to do is sit back and breathe normally.

Almost immediately you will begin to feel rather drowsy and very relaxed. We continue sedation throughout your treatment, and a member of our team is by your side at all times to make sure you are completely comfortable. Once treatment is finished, and we stop the nitrous, you will feel completely normal.

At Queen Anne Dental, your complete comfort is one of our top priorities. If you have more severe anxiety, we do have other options for sedation. Please contact our office and we will be happy to answer any questions you have about sedation options.

I’ve always been afraid of dentists. Can you help me?

We understand your fear, and we want to assure you that you are not alone! Millions of people avoid visits to the dentist because of dental anxiety.

It’s very important to schedule dental visits for routine dental exams, cleanings, and other dental treatments. With today’s sedation options, putting your dental health at risk because of anxiety and stress is completely unnecessary.

First, we make you feel completely comfortable with us by getting to know you and taking the time to talk to you about your concerns. For lots of people, this provides a level of comfort that is enough to get them through the visit.

Others have a higher level of anxiety and require sedation options to help them relax. Nitrous oxide sedation is very effective and easy – all you have to do is breathe through a mask during treatment, which will make you feel drowsy and relaxed.

If you are more anxious, we can prescribe a medication to be taken before your visit. That way, you arrive at our office already feeling little or no anxiety. If we feel it’s necessary, we can add nitrous oxide sedation to really help you relax.

We want you to be completely comfortable, and our compassionate team of professionals will provide support and encouragement to help put you at ease every time you receive treatment at our office.
