Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment?

There is virtually no orthodontic treatment, short-term or otherwise, that does not require a retainer to be worn for maintaining results. Invisalign is an amazing and efficient solution for straightening teeth, but yes, you will need to wear a retainer.

You may wonder why, with all that advanced dental knowledge and technology, you still need to wear a retainer. It’s a common mistake to think that when the alignment portion of treatment is complete, you’re finished.

Your teeth do look pretty great after treatment, and you want them to say that way. That is why you need to wear your retainer conscientiously.

Our teeth are always moving, and of course you never actually feel it happening, but you see the results. While you were wearing your Invisalign aligners, they were gradually working to move your teeth into proper alignment.

When treatment is finished, and you go on with your “life after Invisalign,” your teeth are still moving. Retainers do the job of reminding your teeth where they belong, encouraging them to stay in proper alignment. Without a retainer, your teeth will gradually start to move back into the “life before Invisalign” position, and all that time and investment will be wasted.

You made the commitment to wear the aligners as instructed, and you now enjoy the beautiful results. Take the simple step of wearing the retainer provided by our Queen Anne Dental office, and enjoy those stunning results for a long, long time.
